Few MLB teams have done more on the diamond in recent years than the Houston Astros. The team has made seven consecutive trips to the postseason and earned a pair of World Series championships, in 2017 and 2022.
With three straight American League West titles, including last season’s 90-72 finish, Houston enters the 2024 MLB regular season with high hopes. There is no legal, regulated Texas sports betting, but in states that offer ESPN BET as an operator, the Astros have the third-best World Series odds at +800 as of Friday. Only the Los Angeles Dodgers (+350) and Atlanta Braves (+550) are higher.
With the MLB season right around the corner, BetTexas used Baseball-Reference.com to compile the Astros’ records from the past three years, from 2021 to 2023. We wanted to see which months have been best and worst for the team.
Houston Astros Best Month
Which Month Have Houston Astros Owned?
This data could be useful for customers at Texas sportsbook apps whenever operators are able to enter the state.
Since 2021, the Astros’ best month has been July, when Houston has compiled a 50-27 record (a .649 winning percentage) over the past three seasons combined. The next best months for the Astros have been May (53-30 record, .639 winning percentage) and June (48-32, .600). In the other months, Houston has had a winning record but not one over .600 – the Astros are 48-35 in August (.578), 45-34 in September (.570) and 39-34 in April (.534). That speaks to the yearlong success that general manager Dana Brown is trying to maintain in the Space City.
This year, Joe Espada will look to keep that on-field success alive as he takes over as manager for future Hall of Famer Dusty Baker. Baker captured his first career championship in 2022; he was NL Manager of the Year three times and won 2,183 games from 1993 to 2023 with several teams.
Espada and the Astros will look to flip the script on the team’s worst month of the year since 2021 (April) this spring. The team begins its regular season with a home series against the Toronto Blue Jays from April 1-3.
With the right mixture of good fortune and good play, Espada can carry the torch that Baker held for much of the last decade, as Houston looks to bring a third World Series title in the last eight years to the Space City.
