With music’s biggest show happening on Sunday, it’s worth wondering where states like Texas that have played an outsized role in modern genres’ origins rank when it comes to the musicians that made the cut as Grammy Awards nominees in 2025.
This year, the Lone Star State has seven performers nominated for a Grammy, with Houston’s “Queen Bey” Beyonce leading the way, with five nominations alone for her album “Cowboy Carter” that was released last year.
Throw in a nomination apiece for fellow Space City indie rock band Khruangbin and Roma native Edgar Barrera (Texas resident Post Malone, who has two nominees this year, didn't count towards our tally) and you have the full rundown of Texas’ Grammy nominees this year, with the state ranking in a tie with New York for the third most of any locale in the country.
The 67th Grammy Awards show is taking place this weekend. BetTexas.com was curious to see what states have the most nominations for the major awards. We calculated the total number of nominations each state receives within the General Field and Field 1 categories. We counted a nomination based on where the nominee was born (sorry Post Malone). We factored in the main artist and featured artist, where applicable.
Rank | State | Total Nominations |
1 | California | 12 |
2 | Pennsylvania | 11 |
T3 | Texas | 7 |
T3 | New York | 7 |
5 | Missouri | 6 |
6 | Florida | 4 |
7 | Virginia | 3 |
T-8 | Georgia | 2 |
T-8 | Tennessee | 2 |
T-10 | Washington | 1 |
T-10 | Illinois | 1 |
T-10 | Maine | 1 |
T-10 | Louisiana | 1 |
Of the states that produced at least one Grammy nominee, Texas’ total of seven ranked alongside the Empire State for the third most overall, slotting in behind California’s total of 12 and Pennsylvania’s 11.
Overall, Texas’ count ranked ahead of states like Missouri (six nominees), Florida (four nominees), Virginia (three nominees), Georgia and Tennessee (two nominees each) and the four-way collective of Illinois, Louisiana, Maine and Washington, which had a single nominee apiece in 2025.
This year, it seems like all roads leading to the 67th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles run through the Lone Star State, as Texas is among the nation’s leading producers of top-notch musical talent this year.
