How Do 4-0 Starts Pan Out For NCAA College Football Teams?

If last season’s 3-0 start indicates what’s to come for the Texas Longhorns this season, they will again be in pole position for potential national success across Texas sports betting. The Longhorns have kickstarted their bid for a second consecutive appearance in the College Football Playoff with an impressive 4-0 campaign out of the gate, including a signature victory - a 31-12 win over defending national champs, the Michigan Wolverines, at the Big House.

Led by their dynamic quarterback duo, Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning, the Longhorns have earned a No. 1 national ranking for the first time since 2008. In the newly expanded College Football Playoff format, Texas has emerged as an early favorite, just behind Georgia and Ohio State, to win the national title. Looking to avenge last season’s upset loss to Washington, the Longhorns are set to challenge SEC powerhouses Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee for conference supremacy, which would further ascend their national title hopes.

Matching last season’s early momentum, Texas has every right to believe that they once again have a real shot at not only the SEC crown, but also the CFP.

Longhorns Match Last Season's Hot Start - Is a CFP Berth Next?

The Texas Longhorns have begun the season undefeated throughout the first four weeks, mirroring last year’s start. They joined Michigan, Washington, Florida State, and Georgia with the strongest 3-0 starts last season. The Wolverines ultimately claimed the national title, while the Huskies and Longhorns finished ranked No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Florida State and Georgia rounded out the top six, finishing No. 5 and No. 6.

Programs that began the season undefeated through the first four games had a 96.2% of making a bowl game appearance and a 48% chance of finishing on the final Top 25 poll ranking. Of the teams mentioned
above, 75% made the CFP, which will be subject to change this year with the expansion.

The average record for teams that started undefeated in the first four weeks was 10-3, which Texas will look to avoid. The Longhorns are currently listed +500, at DraftKings, to win the national title, behind only Ohio State (+370) and Georgia (+400).

Over at FanDuel, Texas is the favorite to win the SEC at +260. Texas opens their SEC play welcoming the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sept. 28 as -38.5 favorites.
