After an up-and-down first season in the SEC that ended with an 86-80 dud against Xavier in the First Four on Wednesday night, it appears that the Texas Longhorns are set to move on from men’s basketball head coach Rodney Terry.
With that in mind, BetTexas.com broke down the odds on who will be the next man up in Austin, with a handful of CBB veterans like Grant McCasland of Texas Tech, Sean Miller of Xavier and Alabama’s Nate Oats atop our list.

While we’re still awaiting formal word from UT that Terry is in fact out of a job, we can go ahead and pencil in a handful of names that Texas AD Chris Del Conte can home in on this offseason. Chief among them is Texas Tech’s McCasland, who has gone 48-19 (.716) in Lubbock across two seasons after leading North Texas to 135 victories across 200 games in Denton. He also led Arkansas State to a 20-12 record in his lone season there back in 2016-17.
McCasland heads up our UT odds board, at +450, ranking ahead of Sean Miller, who has shone bright in his second stint with Xavier after a 12-year sojourn in Tucson, with the man who sent UT home packing listed at +550, ranking ahead of Nate Oats, who is listed at +650.
Oats’ latest contract extension includes an $18 million buyout should he leave before March 31, 2026, per The Tuscaloosa News, which could make him prohibitively expensive for any team that pursues him, while McCasland ($8.4 million) and Miller ($1.5 million) have slightly more palatable figures attached to their names.
Should Texas opt to go off script, keep an eye on Tennessee associate head coach Justin Gainey, who checks in alongside Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd at +800 to be the next man up in Austin, while TCU head coach Jamie Dixon (+1100) and UNC Wilmington head coach Takayo Siddle (+1250) round out the list right now to replace Terry in Texas’ capital city.
