Spurs Among Top 10 Youngest NBA Teams For 2024-25 Season

While the 2023-24 NBA season was anything but pretty for members of the San Antonio Spurs, it did allow Gregg Popovich’s team to secure a solid draft pick, which the franchise then used on UConn guard Stephon Castle.

Between the two-time national championship backcourt member and a host of other young stars-in-training like French big man Victor Wembanyama and former Duke guard Tre Jones, San Antonio is anything but bereft of talent from spots one through five this year, which should help Popovich and company rebound from consecutive 22-60 seasons.

This season, oddsmakers from FanDuel Sportsbook pin San Antonio’s win total over/under at 35.5, with -104 odds on the over and -115 odds on the under, to go with +410 odds of making the postseason for the first time since 2018 in 2025.

While there is no Texas sports betting, NBA fans across the country are getting ready for the '24-25 season. To start the season, BetTexas.com wanted to see what NBA teams have the youngest rosters, as of opening day (Oct. 22.) Using the official team rosters as of opening day, we found the average age of each team and ranked the top 10 youngest NBA teams.

Where Spurs Ranks Among NBA’s Youngest Teams in 2024-25

Entering the new league year, the one thing that San Antonio has going for it is the team’s youth, with the Spurs having the second youngest roster in the 30-team league, with an average age of 24.7 years.

Overall, the Spurs ranked behind Western Conference rival, the Oklahoma City Thunder, who have an average age of 24.58 this season, while San Antonio ranks ahead of the Detroit Pistons (24.77 average age), Portland Trail Blazers (24.82 average age) and Utah Jazz (24.91 average age) leaguewide.

As the Spurs prepare to tip off the team’s season against the Dallas Mavericks on Oct. 24, it’s worth wondering whether team leaders in win shares like Jones (4.9 WS in 77 games), Wembanyama (3.7 WS in 71 games) and Devin Vassell (3.6 WS in 68 games) can lead the Spurs back to the mountaintop in the year ahead.

For now, what we do know is that Popovich will have his hands full in 2024-25, with one of the youngest rosters in the NBA and a lot of unpolished talent from the backcourt to the frontcourt in the season ahead.
