Whoever said that there’s a market for anything in the world somewhere must have been onto something, as the enigmatic candy morsel known as candy corn has somehow won its way into the hearts of Texans this Halloween season.
We can assess such things based on the digital tea leaves known as search interest scores, which show that the yellow, orange and white triangular treats are Texas’ favorite candy this year, ranking ahead of household favorites like Skittles, Milky Way bars and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
Halloween and trick-or-treating are almost here. In celebration of the spooky holiday, BetTexas.com - home to all things Texas sports betting - used Google Trends to see what the most popular Halloween candies are in Texas. The search period was between September 17, 2024 – October 17, 2024, and the rank is based on search interest scores for each candy.
Rank | Candy | Search Interest Score |
1 | Candy Corn | 73 |
2 | Skittles | 58 |
3 | Milky Way | 55 |
4 | Reese’s | 50 |
5 | Starburst | 42 |
Overall, the staple candy that originated in Cincinnati known as candy corn was the top pick among Texans, with a search interest score of 73, ranking 15 points ahead of the closest candy.
That treat would be the multicolored fruit flavored treat known as Skittles, which finished the period in question with a search interest score of 58 to finish second in Texas, with the Mars Inc. brand beating out a trio of American favorites for the No. 2 spot in the Lone Star State.
That trio includes fellow Mars Inc. candy bar Milky Way, which finished the period in question with a search interest score of 55 to place third overall in Texas, while Hershey’s brand Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups ranking fourth overall in the state, with a score of 50.
Finally, Mars Inc. fruit-flavored soft taffy candy Starburst finished off the Texas Halloween candy leaderboard for the year, with the multicolored treats scoring a search interest total of 42 to rank fifth overall behind the other brands as the spookiest day of the calendar year arrives once again.
