We’ve officially moved past the spooky season in Texas, with everyone’s favorite, food-centric holiday approaching on Nov. 28, when Thanksgiving brings friends and family together to remember all the good things we have in our lives and be thankful for what the year that was brought each of us.
In the Lone State State - where we still wait for Texas sports betting - it seems like a handful of side dishes have stolen the show, with Thanksgiving mainstays like stuffing, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts and sweet potato casserole ranking as the Lone Star State’s favorites in 2024.
Utilizing Google Trends, BetTexas.com analyzed the most popular Thanksgiving side dishes of Texas residents by looking at the search results of each side dish from 11/01/2023 to 11/30/2023.

Out of the many Thanksgiving options available, Texans appear to have extra love for stuffing, with the trusted holiday side scoring a search interest total of 17 points to knock off mac & cheese (10 search interest score) as the state’s No. 1 dish this year.
Throw in green bean casserole (eight search interest score), mashed potatoes (six search interest score), Brussels sprouts and sweet potato casserole (three search interest score each) and you have the complete rundown of Texas’ favorite Thanksgiving sides this year.
When broken down by city, it appears that places like El Paso, Dallas and Houston really love themselves some stuffing, with the 43% of respondents in the former and 42% in the latter two picking the dish as their favorite Thanksgiving side dish, while San Antonio (37%) and Austin (35%) rounded out the list.
As far as other sides, Houston (24%), Dallas (26%), Austin (21%) and El Paso (20%) had mac & cheese as their No. 2 Thanksgiving side, while San Antonio went with green bean casserole (24%), with the other three Texas cities picking that dish as their third favorite side, with percentages ranging from 14% in Dallas to 19% in Austin and El Paso.
Regardless of how the exact breakdown happened, it appears clear that stuffing is Texas’ go-to each Thanksgiving, with the humble side dish of starch and carbohydrates ranking atop the Lone Star State’s side dish rankings in 2024.
