The second most populous state in America is known for a wide swath of things; ranging from Tex-Mex to barbecue (food-wise), along with the wide variety of scenery that’s found in the Lone Star State.
One thing that many would likely fail to pin on the state, however, is a bounty of coniferous trees, which are the center piece each Christmas in millions of homes across America, including in many Texas households.
Given that holiday season is in full swing, BetTexas.com was curious if locals in the Lone Star state prefer real or artificial Christmas trees. Using Google Trends, we compared the search interest scores for “real Christmas trees” and “artificial Christmas trees.” The search period was 11/30/2023-12/25/2023 and filtered to only include Texas.
Stay tuned for updates across the Texas sports betting landscape over the holidays as well.
Type | Score |
Real Tree | 30 |
Artificial Tree | 23 |
Metro | Type | Percentage of Preference |
Beaumont | Real Tree | 100% |
Houston | Artificial Tree | 51% |
San Antonio | Tie | 50% |
Austin | Real Tree | 63% |
Dallas-Fort Worth | Real Tree | 53% |
Waco-Temple | Real Tree | 100% |
When it comes to the real vs. artificial Christmas tree debate, it seems like Texans are evenly split, with the real thing posting a slightly higher search interest score compared to artificial varieties (30 vs. 23).
When broken down by the state’s six largest metropolitan areas, the split is a bit easier to read, with places like Beaumont and the Waco-Temple areas picking real trees over artificial ones by a 100%-to-0% margin, while other parts of the state were more evenly divided.
In Austin, for instance, real trees won out over fake ones by a final score of 63%-to-37%, while the people of Dallas-Fort Worth (53%-to-47% in favor of real trees) and San Antonio (an even 50-50 split between real and artificial trees) were more evenly divided.
Overall, Texans appear to favor hardwood over plastic, though, as real trees notched a small but sturdy victory in the Great Christmas Tree debate over their artificial brethren in the Lone Star State.
