Next Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Odds: Top Candidates For Cowboys To Replace McCarthy

Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

The Dallas Cowboys sent shockwaves across the NFL on Monday, with the team failing to reach an extension with head coach Mike McCarthy, officially opening the door for a new leader in 2025.

McCarthy’s time in Dallas ends on a sour note, with the Cowboys going 7-10 and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020, though he did finish his time in Dallas with a 49-35 (.583) record, with a 1-3 mark in the postseason.

Now, the question surrounding the Cowboys is who owner Jerry Jones will go with to be his next head coach, with a host of current NFL assistants in the mix, along with longshots like Deion Sanders of Colorado and former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.

With that in mind, our Texas sports betting experts broke down some hypothetical odds on which candidate will replace McCarthy as the Cowboys next head coach, with a former Dallas offensive coordinator leading the way right now.

Who Replaces McCarthy in Dallas?

Our top pick to be the next head coach in Big-D is Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator and former Cowboys’ OC and quarterbacks coach Kellen Moore, who checks in at +550 after spending this year in the same role with the Cowboys’ NFC East rivals.

Moore’s time in Dallas ran from 2018, when he coached Dak Prescott and Dallas’ quarterbacks to 2022, when he parted ways with the franchise after a playoff exit, moving on to the Los Angeles Chargers and then the Eagles.

Overall, Moore beats out two candidates co-listed at +700, in former Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera and Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, while Carroll and former Las Vegas Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden clock in at +1100 apiece.

Throw in names like Mike Zimmer (+1250), Aaron Glenn and Kliff Kingsbury (+1500 each), and Sanders and Jason Witten (+2500 each) and you have the full rundown on who we see Jones going with this time around in Dallas.

For now, what we know for sure is that McCarthy’s run inside “Jerry World” is done, with the Cowboys moving on to a new leader in 2025 and opening the door for a move that could send shockwaves across both the NFL and college football depending on who Jones and his confidantes go with this time around.
